Course Outline

Over the next two months, you will master the fundamentals of five diverse art forms: canvas painting, texture painting, fabric painting, decoupage, and resin art. This intensive course will provide you with a comprehensive creative foundation, teaching you about the materials, working methods, and final projects for each technique, empowering you to express your artistry across multiple mediums.

Main Objectives:

By the end of this 4-day intensive practice, students will achieve a foundational understanding of canvas painting techniques, including proper material preparation, effective color layering, and intricate detailing. They will gain the confidence to create their own complete artwork, exploring various subject matters and developing their unique artistic expression.

Duration: 2 Weeks (4 Days)

Materials Required:

  • Paints (Acrylics or Water-based paints)
  • Water
  • Brushes (various sizes, including a small detail brush)
  • Palette
  • Image for drawing or tracing
  • Canvas
  • Gesso
  • Oil-based or dedicated acrylic varnish for finishing

Day 1: Introduction and Preparation

  • Introduction to Canvas Painting: Students will receive a comprehensive introduction to canvas painting. This includes an overview of different types of painting styles (e.g., Still Life, Landscape and Abstract) and a detailed discussion on the various materials used in canvas art.
  • Canvas Preparation: Learn the essential steps of preparing a canvas. This involves applying gesso evenly to create a smooth, paint-ready surface. The gesso will then be left to dry completely.
  • Image Transfer: Guidance will be provided on how to accurately trace or draw the selected image onto the prepared canvas.
  • Paint Choice: Students have the flexibility to use their preferred acrylic or water-based paints for the course.

Day 2: Background and under painting:

  • Beginning the Painting Process: Students will commence painting, focusing first on establishing the background of their chosen image.
  • Filling in Areas: All areas of both the background and foreground will be carefully filled in.
  • Light Layers: Emphasis will be placed on applying light, initial layers of color to build a solid base for subsequent shading and detailing.

Day 3: Building Colors and Shades

  • Developing Depth: Once the initial color layers have dried, students will progress to incorporating darker and medium shades into their paintings.
  • Expert Guidance: The instructor will provide hands-on guidance and demonstrations on various shading techniques and effective color application to create depth and realism.

Day 4: Detailing and Final Project Completion

  • Adding Fine Details: After filling in all the main colors and establishing basic shading, students will dedicate this day to adding intricate details to their paintings. This will involve using smaller brushes for precision work.
  • Final Project: Students will complete their artwork, choosing one of the following as their final project:
    • Still Life Painting: Focusing on composition, light, and shadow to depict inanimate objects.
    • Landscape Painting: Learning to capture natural scenes, atmospheric perspective, and environmental details.
    • Abstract Painting: Exploring non-representational forms, colors, and textures to express emotion or ideas.

Final Step: Finishing Your Artwork

  • Varnishing: Once the painting is completely finished and thoroughly dry, students will learn to apply a protective varnish. This can be either an oil-based or a dedicated acrylic varnish, ensuring a durable and professional finish that enhances the colors and protects the artwork.

Main Objectives:

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of texture painting. Participants will learn to create tactile and three-dimensional effects on a flat surface by preparing their own texture mediums and using various application tools.
